Stuart & Risa Mehl

Dear Family & Friends,

Our dear son Jeremy is about to complete his year at Yeshivat Reishit in Israel and we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about his experience. At Reishit, Jeremy was immersed in a high level of
Torah learning. More importantly, however, he was surrounded by extraordinary, intelligent and caring Rebbe imdedicated to instilling in their students the values of Ahavat Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael along with a commitment
to family and personal goals. In addition, Jeremy forged meaningful friendships with many new people from different communities and backgrounds. Risa and I are certain that Jeremy will maintain close relationships with
these Rebbeim and friends, which he will draw upon throughout his life.

It is this combination of deep study in a loving and nurturing environment in Eretz Yisroel that has provided Jeremy with a strong foundation. It is a foundation that we know will help him navigate through the difficult challenges of our times. Unfortunately, we live in difficult times as we globally experience political, financial and spiritual crisis. That is why it is incumbent on all of us, as a community and as a nation, to help as many boys as possible benefi t from Yeshivat Reishit just as our son Jeremy did. It is an experience that will protect our boys and our nation in the long run.

Throughout our lives, Risa and I have been blessed to see our families support many worthy Jewish causes. However it is not until now that we truly understand the importance of supporting an institution like Reishit which is so much more than just another Yeshiva. Supporting Reishit truly represents an investment in the protection of our future as Jews. As such, Risa and I have accepted to be Reishit’s guests of honor at the annual Yeshivat Reishit scholarship dinner which will be held on Monday evening June 20th, 2011 at Terrace On The Park.

Please understand that during these fi nancially trying times we did not accept this honor lightly. However, we could not refuse because the need for Yeshivat Reishit in our community is so great. We hope that you will be inclined to join us in our important mission to “invest in our collective future” and that we will see you on the evening of June 20th.

Thank you in advance for your friendship and your generous support.

Stuart Mehl

Sharon and Jerry Volk

Dear Friends:

Please join us on Monday, June 20, 2011 as we have been chosen to be the Alumni Parents of the Year at the Yeshivat Reishit Yerushalayim Annual Dinner being held at Terrace in the Park, Queens, NY.

We have happily accepted this honor to thank Reishit and its faculty for the attention, guidance, outstanding education, and overall experience given to our son, Adam, while he was a student at the Yeshiva. While studying at Reishit Adam developed a close cadre of friends that he has maintained relationships with and are still counted among his closest friends to this day.

Reishit has the right formula – Torah learning for every kind of student.  Reishit has faith in each and every student and tailors their individual programs and schedules to help them reach their highest possible potential and goals.
The caring Rabbis know how to integrate the importance of Torah scholarship and love for Eretz Yisrael with real life experiences. They forge and maintain relationships with their students that last – through their good times and bad, smachot and tragedies – their Rabbis are only a phone call away.

We call the Reishit style: Level-headed Yiddishkeit.

In order for the Yeshiva to continue its unique programming and offer scholarships to deserving students, please join us, as well as contribute generously, so that others can derive the same feeling and benefit as Adam.
We are looking forward to seeing you at this special event.

Thank you in advance for your friendship and support.

Cordially,
Sharon and Jerry Volk

Ami & Bracha Avraham

Dear Friends,

When my alma mater, Yeshivat Reishit Yerushalayim, recently asked me to accept their Alumnus of the Year honor, I was both humbled and touched. I was part of the special group of students who studied in both the “Old” and “New” Reishit and to this day have fond memories of my time spent there.

I grew up in a home where dedication to Torah and Chesed were modeled for me daily. My parents were and continue to be my role models and inspiration. Reishit exemplifies those same values I had received at home. The emphasis at Reishit was on Torah and responsibility to G-d, to family and to Klal Yisrael.

It has been over a decade since my wonderful years in Reishit and the lessons I learned there have served me well as I have been blessed to begin building my own Torah home with my dear wife Bracha and our two children Azriel & Orly. As I have grown on my own personal journey, Reishit has been flourishing as well and continues with renewed vigor on its mission to educate and inspire our young men, some of whom are “alumni” of the Ohr Torah Teen Minyan which I have been privileged to run for the past seven years. The personal relationships I forged with the Rebbeim at Reishit continue to this day as I strive to emulate the warmth and care they showed me in my relationships with the young men I mentor in Edison.

It would be a great honor to us if you would support this very worthy cause so that we can all be partners in Torat Eretz Yisrael and in raising a new generation for our community. We look forward to greeting you personally at the Dinner.

With sincere thanks,
Ami & Bracha Avraham

Rav Judah and Ora Mischel

After nine years of teaching and working at Reishit, Rav Judah and Ora Mischel have decided to ‘blaze their own trail” in assisting Klal Yisrael in the future.

During these years, Rav Judah and Ora have become most influential and important to the yeshiva in general, as well as to students and alumni individually. We are taking this opportunity to express our deep appreciation and love that we the staff and students alike feel towards Rav Judah and Ora.

There are three major areas that encompass Rav Judah and Ora’s approach to education that they have incorporated successfully – their formal teaching of Torat Yisrael, their connection to the Land of Israel, Eretz Yisrael, and their “open door policy” of hospitality and hacnasat orchim.

Rav Judah teaches Torah in his own unique style - his daily shiurim, gemara, parsha, and his Chassidic Masters shiurim inspire his students  because he teaches with warmth, unbounded love and with an exemplary spirit of joy. Rav Judah enhances his teaching with a love of music and with a “fire” for internal truth.

Rav Judah and Ora have a deep connection to Eretz Yisrael which is coupled with a sense of responsibility with events unfolding in Israel. Reishit students have benefited from Rav Judah’s outstanding trips, programs as well as activities benefiting the IDF, terror victims and those in need. Each trip and program is well thought out, with an eye to detail, done creatively to interest students of varied backgrounds and interests.

The website, weekly newsletter and Parsha emails, were initiated by Rav Judah and continue with his input. These ‘labors of love’ reflect Rav Judah’s many talents and interests which we benefited from daily.

The Hachnasat Orchim that Rav Judah and Ora exhibit is phenomenal - their door is always open - any hour, every day to each and every student whether they are currently learning in yeshiva  or visiting years afterward. Not only is their door open, but also their hearts as well filled with kindness and love to one and all.

For all of these reasons and many more, Rav Judah and Ora leave their indelible mark on Reishit which we will benefit from in the future and which we will sorely miss.

May they find their derech to assist and enhance Am Yisrael in the future as they have done for us in the past.
